you may never need a new Battleship Game again.
Battleships and Cruisers form the core battle line for warship fleets in Lost Admiral Returns. Battleships and Cruisers live to pound all enemy ships into submission, while surviving enemy fire long enough to finish their work.
Lost Admiral Returns
uses battleships as big, deadly machines of destruction,
with a small Achilles heel… They cannot fight back
against submerged submarines by themselves. Battleships
move 2 hexes per turn in Lost Admiral, can take up to 12
points of damage before sinking, and do about 4 points
of damage each turn to another battleship. They kill
most smaller ships found in LAR with one shot. However,
they do zero damage to submerged submarines, while
taking 4 points of damage per turn from them. Therefore
it is very important to hunt down enemy submerged
submarines with your own destroyers and PT boats before
they can reach your vulnerable battleships.
Compare the classic Battleship Game
to LAR:
Battleships are a lot of fun to use in LAR compared to the traditional battleship game. You can move your battleships around in LAR, compared to no movement in classic battleship games. LAR Battleships can kill smaller ships in one barrage, while the traditional Battleship Game treats attacks from all your ships as the same level of deadliness. Also, the classic Battleship Game lets your battleships take damage and sink as easily as any other ship. In fact, PT boats and destroyers often out live your battleship. In LAR, battleships are king, and kill better, and outlive most other ships in the game.
Cruisers in LAR are smaller, less tough versions of battleships. They move 2 hexes per turn, take 9 points of damage to kill, and do only 3 points of damage to a battleship, while taking 5 points of damage back from a battleship. They can, however, fight back against submerged submarines, killing them in two shots.
Some LAR campaigns feature the famous German Battleship Bismark, portraying the famous German Navy raids against British and American shipping during World War II. You are given control of a beefed up battleship representing the German Battleship Bismark, and must keep it alive through several battles while successfully damaging enemy shipping.
You can also create your own customized battleship to represent other famous World War II battleships such as the famous Yamato Battleship, or Battleship New Jersey. Spend your LAR perk points to add extra “armor” or make the ship faster, able to scout out a hex or two with scout planes, or do more damage with it's broadsides. Look out though, because similar custom tweaks can be made to other ships in the game, including submarines, which can be quite deadly to battleships…
